Neil Lane Honored with Gem Award

Jennifer Hudson and Neil Lane
Celebrity jeweler Neil Lane was honored with the JIC GEM Award for Jewelry Style during a January 7 gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. The star-studded event, sponsored by the Jewelry Information Center, featured Hollywood, jewelry and sports icons including Jennifer Hudson, Cynthia Nixon, and Boomer Esiason.

Lane was honored for his vintage-inspired jewelry and fostering consumer desire and media interest in work. His pieces–red carpet favorites–have influenced jewelry style and design for the past 20 years. His latest endeavor, Neil Lane Bridal for Kay Jewelers, makes his coveted jewelry accessible to women nationwide.

Hudson, who presented the award to Lane, dazzled in Neil Lane fancy-colored diamond and platinum chandelier earrings, white and fancy-colored diamond and platinum cuff, and a white and fancy-colored diamond and platinum cocktail ring.

JIC's GEM Awards recognizes outstanding achievements of individuals and companies whose work raises the visibility of fine jewelry and watches. The gala was hosted by Lloyd Boston, a style expert, author and Emmy-nominated host of HDTV's Closet Cases.

Nixon presented the GEM Award for Journalistic Excellence to Marie Claire magazine, accepted by editor-in-chief Joanna Coles.

Marie Bodman, Breitling USA president, accepted the GEM Award for Corporate Communications on behalf of the international watch company for its marketing and overall cohesive brand messaging.

Jeffrey E. Post, curator of the Gem and Mineral Collection at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, received the GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement. As a surprise to Post and the audience, the program ended with a special video honoring him from former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the recipient of the 2010 GEM Award for Style.
