Rihanna Teams With Chopard For New Jewelry Collection

Rihanna, who has worked with Chopard for the past few years, has now extended this relationship to produce a new line of jewelry with the luxury brand. Known as “Rihanna ♥ Chopard,” it consists of high jewelry pieces and limited collection of jewels made with “Fairmined” gold.

The luxury brand released two images of the Rihanna ♥ Chopard Haute Joaillerie Collection that will be officially be unveiled May 2017 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Festival de Cannes red carpet and celebrate Chopard’s 20th year as the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival. They are a one-of-a-kind floral inspired multi-colored chandelier earrings and marquise-cut diamond solitaire ring.

Earrings in 18k white gold and titanium set with blue, pink and yellow sapphires, tsavorites, rubellites, green beryls, aquamarines, Paraiba tourmalines, rubies, amethysts, topazs, lazulites and diamonds.

The world-renowned signer and fashion icon did provide a discreet look at the two new pieces. At the recent Grammy Awards, she wore the floral earrings and on the March 2017 cover of Harper’s Bazaar, she wore the transformable diamond earrings. Chopard said the high jewelry collection is inspired by Rihanna’s island roots—the lush gardens of Barbados and the bright colors of Carnival.

Earrings in 18k white ethical gold certified ‘Fairmined’ featuring four pear-shaped diamonds (9.7cts) and set with brilliant-cut (5.2cts), pear-shaped (4.7cts), oval-cut and marquise-cut diamonds. All diamonds are sourced from a producer who is a RJC certified member.

The second collection is the limited edition Rihanna ♥ Chopard Joaillerie Collection is defined by minimalist geometry and sharp, clean lines. It is based on Chopard’s classic Ice Cube shape with a mix what the luxury brand describes as “a synergy of urban modernism and pure design.”

Linear rectangular motifs link frosty rose gold cubes with solid ceramic blocks in a color personally selected by Rihanna and named “Jungle Green.” Crafted from ethical 18k Fairmined rose gold, the nine-piece capsule collection will be available with icy polished or diamond set gold cubes. Fairmined is an assurance label that certifies gold from empowered responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations who meet world leading standards for responsible practices.

The collection’s unveiling today coincides with the release of a global advertising campaign featuring Rihanna. Pieces will be available in June with pre-orders online at www.chopard.com/us/rihanna-loves-chopard and Chopard boutiques starting today.

To create the collection, Rihanna teamed with Caroline Scheufele, Chopard co-president and creative director.

Rihanna in recent years has worn Chopard jewels on red carpets at major events so the two described this collaboration as natural.

“I have always been in love with Chopard’s exquisite jewelry, so to actually design collections with them is something I still can't believe,” Rihanna said in a statement.

“Rihanna and I collaborated closely on the collections so you can feel her unstoppable energy, strong creativity, and inherent sense of design in every piece,” Scheufele added. “With her unique style, she redefines the way people see and wear jewelry.”

Can MTV Encourage Teens To Buy Adult Jewels?

Rihanna wore a Hearts on Fire diamond necklace and Lydia Courteille ruby rings while performing on stage at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards

MTV, the cable network that was an extraordinary success in the 1980s popularizing music videos, is now just one more channel on a cable box with a segmented audience. It rarely even plays music anymore, opting for a diet of reality and scripted TV for its teenage demographic.

MTV’s last bastion of broad popularity is its annual Video Music Awards. Its most recent edition was held Sunday at Madison Square Garden. The awards themselves don’t garner much attention. It serves more as a platform for great performances and fashion, and as a forum for outrageous public displays or battles among the entertainers.

As far as the jewels on view—whether it’s by paying performers to wear their pieces or through agencies who work with performers and their staffs—many of the pieces worn on the red carpet and during performances is similar to what one would see at the Oscars and other more establishment events. In other words far too expensive and too “adult” to be worn by those attending high school.

It seems to me that promoting high jewelry to teenagers is an extremely difficult pitch. It would be better if fashion-oriented brands would present jewels that young women can afford to wear.

As for jewelry, the two stars of the evening should come as no surprise: Beyoncé and Rihanna.

Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy reportedly wore $13 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewels. The Los Angeles jewelry designer is extremely popular among music industry royalty.

Rihanna in Harry Kotlar diamond earrings and a Lydia Courteille tsavorite and green tourmaline ring and a 36mm Chopard timepiece featuring 21.09-carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold from the “L’Heure Du Diamant” collection

Meanwhile, Rihanna again served as a canvas for a variety of jewelry firms. Her four performances with four completely different looks were embellished with Harry Kotlar diamond earrings, a Lydia Courteille tsavorite and green tourmaline ring, a Hearts on Fire diamond necklace, Lydia Courteille ruby rings and a 36mm Chopard timepiece featuring 21.09-carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold from the “L’Heure Du Diamant” collection.

Taking into account what I was saying earlier about jewels and youth, there will always be exceptions and Beyoncé and Rihanna are the exceptions. Their star power, fashion presence, incredible talent and universal appeal put them in a class all their own, deserving of wearing the highest of high jewels.

The other notable jewels on parade at the VMAs include:

Nicki Minaj in Harry Kotlar diamond cluster earrings and a Le Vian diamond ring.

Amber Rose in a Borgioni rose gold diamond ring along with Le Vian rings and white gold/diamond bracelet.

Ariana Grande in Harry Kotlar diamond earrings.

JinJoo Lee of DNCE in Pasquale Bruni black diamond and diamond ring, Bavna black diamond earrings and rings and Le Vian white gold and black diamond rings. As an added bonus, Cole Whittle of DNCE in Pluma Italia chains.

Actress and model Shelley Hennig in Le Vian diamond earrings.

Halsey in a Noudar diamond hand chain and Harry Kotlar diamond rings.

Canadian fashion model, spokesperson and activist, Winnie Harlow in Le Vian diamond rings.

Bebe Rexha in Le Vian diamond earrings and Borgioni diamond rings.

Grammy Winning Jewelry Designs

Jennifer Lopez, and her exposed leg, wearing $5 million worth of
Norman Silverman diamond earrings, rings and bracelets
(more photos below).

Most of the fashion talk at last night’s 55th annual Grammy Awards was centered around the CBS memo with its warning not to show too much skin. According to the Los Angeles Times, “The memo specifically warned attendees to adequately cover their ‘buttocks and female breasts, bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack, bare sides and curvature of the breasts.’ They were also encouraged to avoid sheer clothing and thong-type costumes.”

J Lo outsmarted the CBS brass by being revealing and living up to the standards imposed by the memo. Katy Perry abided by the memo by covering up yet still managed to be revealing. Nicole Kidman and Rihanna both looked stunning. The rest of the stars were for the most part, boring in their attire.

As far as jewelry goes, unlike the outfits, many of the designs worn by the stars were bold. Precious metals shined brightly, diamonds and colored gemstones sparkled. Below are few of the highlights.

At the age of 45, actress Nicole Kidman (with her husband Country Music singer Keith Urban), dazzled on the red carpet wearing Fred Leighton's 19th Century green enamel, diamond and gold snake cuff and pyramid shaped gold pendant earrings to complement her Vera Wang gold embroidered gown.

At the other end of the age spectrum (24) and looking just as fabulous was Barbadian singer Rihanna who reportedly was draped in Neil Lane jewelry, including a 100-carat diamond and platinum serpentine bracelet, multiple diamond and ruby serpent rings and 30-carat diamond and platinum drop earrings.

Singer Katy Perry is wearing an Adeler 14k yellow gold Chalcedony ring, but I really had difficulty noticing. Like J Lo, she too, abided by the CBS memo and still managed to proudly display her assets, retail: $3,908.

More pictures of J Lo in Norman Silverman jewelry. Above she is wearing a 10-carat diamond stud earrings. Below she is adorned with 2.18-carat diamond band ring, a 9.76-carat diamond band ring, a 33.77-carat canary diamond bracelet, a 31.30-carat diamond bracelet and a 33.68-carat diamond bracelet.

TV personality Nancy O'Dell wearing in a Allia smokey quartz, citrine and spinel earrings, retail: $4590; an Isharya "Black and Nude" pyramid luxe cuffs, retail each: $278; and a Le Vian ring, retail: $247,

A number of entertainers were on hand Saturday night at the Clive Davis & The Recording Academy's 2013 Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons honoring Antonio "L.A." Reid at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, Calif. Among them:

Jewelry industry favorite, Jennifer Hudson in Michael M. Diamond drop earrings (above, retail: $30,500; and Demarco 18k rose gold mixed diamond cuff, retail: $187,500.

Singer Ciara wore a Demarco 18k rose gold diamond ring, retail: $17,400;a Le Vian 14k Strawberry Gold diamond ring, retail: $8,297,and a Norman Silverman 18k rose gold diamond band, retail: $12,760.

Kathy Griffin is adorned in a palladium Cosmic Meteor ring by D'ette Delforge of 3D Designs, which features a natural octahedron diamond surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds.
